About Our Scholarship
In order to maintain a license to practice dentistry, dentists must complete a minimum requirement of continuing education annually (currently, the state of Louisiana requires licensed dentists to complete a minimum of 20-continuing education hours annually). Prior to the internet, finding quality continuing education opportunities was a challenge and typically involved travel to major cities like Atlanta, Chicago, New York, etc. Dr. Russell L. Westfall was a local oral surgeon and member of Northlake Dental Association, our local component society of the American and Louisiana Dental Associations. Dr. Westfall spearheaded an effort to bring quality, educational programs to our area so that Northlake Dental Association members, and non-members from the region, could have access to quality continuing education offerings, located close to home, at an affordable cost. Many years later, Northlake Dental Association continues to provide its members with educational opportunities featuring world-class speakers on cutting-edge topics at non-profit pricing.
This commitment to quality education benefits not only Northlake Dental Association members, but the communities in which they practice, the very communities in which this scholarship is being offered. Each school year, a scholarship will be awarded within NDA’s geographical region Tangipahoa Parish, Washington Parish and St Tammany Parish west of Bayou Lacombe. Awards will be presented during the winner’s high school awards ceremony - winners will be notified in advance.
